Per R* Newswire:

The five Free Roam Challenges in Red Dead Redemption‘s multiplayer are one of many ways for you and your friends to gain experience and new titles for your online characters.  Last week, we covered both Hunter and Sharpshooter challenges – this time, we’ll be going through the Outlaw challenges.

To view Free Roam Challenges in the game, enter multiplayer.  Pause the game, choose ‘Journal’ and then ‘Free Roam’.

Outlaw I – Public Enemy

Become Most Wanted and earn 250 XP and the title Outlaw.
Tip: Get a bounty of more than $1000 to become a Public Enemy and become ‘Most Wanted’.

Become Most Wanted ten times and earn 250 XP and the title On The Run.
Tip: An example of a safe place with plenty of cover is the third floor of the El Alcalde De Chuparosa building in Chuparosa.  Use the ladder in the east room of the second floor to gain access, and watch that ladder closely for Law Men.

Become Most Wanted 50 times and earn 250 XP and the title Career Criminal.
Tip: Another example of a place in the game with great cover is behind the counter of Nathaniel Johnston’s General Practice Physician’s building in Armadillo.  But be careful as other players might try to light your character on fire by shooting at the lantern hanging from the ceiling…

Outlaw I – Bounty

Gain a bounty of $500 and earn 250 XP and the title Bandito.
Tip: Shoot and kill enough Law Men to get your bounty over $500.  Take cover.

Gain a bounty of $1000 and earn 250 XP and the title Renegade.
Tip: A bounty of $1000 will make you a Public Enemy.  Take positions in a building with your posse and stay alive at all costs.

Gain a bounty of $5000 and earn 250 XP and the title Enemy of the State.
Tip: The Law Men will do everything they can to take you down.  Stay near a town to ensure that more and more Law Men keep coming as you shoot them down.

Outlaw I – Survival

Stay alive for three minutes with a posse after you and earn 250 XP and the title Running Man.
Tip: Don’t ever run out into an open area with Law Men after you unless you are sure you have sufficient cover from the rest of your posse.

Stay alive for five minutes with a posse after you and earn 250 XP and the title Fleeing Felon.
Tip: If you want to find a stagecoach and get up to six of your posse rolling, wait along roads or look in towns.  Just be sure whoever is steering has mad skills.

Stay alive for seven minutes with a posse after you and earn 250 XP and the title Maniac Militia Member.
Tip: Be sure you’ve got plenty of ammunition and good weapons before going for this one.  For example, get the Mauser Pistol from inside the west building in Twin Rocks.

Outlaw II – Outlaw Gang

Form a posse of two or more.  All posse members must gain a bounty of at least $1000 to earn 250 XP and the title Mild Bunch.
Tip: Another good spot for your posse to take cover and fire at Law Men is on top of the Foreman’s Office in MacFarlane’s Ranch.  Have one of your posse members keep an eye on the staircase for incoming Law Men.

Form a posse of two or more.  All posse members must gain a bounty of at least $2500 to earn 250 XP and the title Motley Crew.
Tip: It’s always good to appoint a leader to give orders when fighting off Law Men to complete challenges.

Form a posse of two or more.  All posse members must gain a bounty of at least $7500 to earn 250 XP and the title Wild Bunch.
Tip: Posse up and stick together.  Everyone needs to work together to get through this challenge..

Outlaw II – Public Enemy Killer

Kill a Public Enemy player and earn 250 XP and the title Deputy.
Tip: When you hear the announcement that a player in your Free Roam has become a Public Enemy, a skull will appear on your radar.

Kill five Public Enemy players and earn 250 XP and the title Sheriff.
Tip: Any player that’s gained a bounty of more than $1000 will want to stay alive at all costs, so use clever tactics when approaching.  If the Public Enemy is inside a building, see if you can snipe him through a window from a distance or kill him with dynamite.

Kill 25 Public Enemy players and earn 250 XP and the title Law Dog.
Tip: Observe how the Public Enemy is killing Law Men, and be sure to use a different tactic.  Be careful to not trample a dog or shoot a horse as this will give you a bounty and make it more difficult for you to take down the Public Enemy.
Tip: Easiest way to do this is to find a player that’s already Most Wanted.  Keep your space from the player.  Start taking down Law Men and become Most Wanted.  Then rush for the player and show your skills.

Outlaw II – Public Enemy Kill Streak

Kill a Most Wanted player while you are Most Wanted and earn 250 XP and the title The Coward.

Get a kill streak of three while being a Public Enemy and earn 250 XP and the title Yellowbelly.
Tip: Gain a $1000 bounty and find a spot where you can take down Law Men and also use a rifle at long range to take down incoming players.

Get a kill streak of five while being a Public Enemy and earn 250 XP and the title Remorseless.
Tip: Always regenerate your health using cover.  If a posse of players is coming after you, pull out the Mauser Pistol you obtained from Twin Rocks and fire away at a rapid rate.

Get a kill streak of seven while being a Public Enemy and earn 250 XP and the title Public Enemy #1.
Tip: You’ve made it to a kill streak of five.  All you need to do now is get two more kills.  Reload your weapons, keep knocking down Law Men and watch the blips on your radar.  Patience is key.  Wait for that perfect moment.

And if you have any additional tips to share on how best to complete the Free Roam Challenges, let everyone know in the comments.  Stay tuned for more of our Free Roam Challenges tips series in the coming weeks.

Red Dead Redemption There is No Law in Thieves' Landing

Quick Tip: There are no lawmen in Thieves’ Landing. So if the mood strikes you, put on your bandanna (which can actually be purchased in Thieves’ Landing) so you don’t lose any honor and let the killing, looting, and stealing begin as you will not incur any bounty! But be warned, even though there is no law enforcement, both the Bollard Twins and Walton Gangs have a large presence in this reckless town and are always heavily armed.

If you’re looking for a challenge, try to clear it out!

Red Dead Redemption Famous Gunslinger

Quick Tip: Become a Famed Gunslinger in Red Dead Redemption and you will no longer be wanted for stealing horses.

Red Dead Redemption Quick Tips

Here is a collection of Red Dead Redemption Tips from Rockstar Games:

We’ve put together just a few handy tips and tricks – including a few things you may have missed even if you’ve been spent your entire past week living in the vast open world of Red Dead Redemption.  These are all basic quick tips.  We will be providing more advanced tips in the coming weeks.

Fast Travel – Need to get to another town fast?  In single player, approach a Stagecoach Taxi and ride shotgun or as a passenger.  And when not in a town, settlement or gang hideout, set up camp whether you’re on your horse or walking around on the ground by pressing Select and choosing Campsite (Basic or Improved) in your kit.  Setting up camp will give you the option to travel to a waypoint or town within any previously visited area, as well as offering the option to save or change outfits.  In multiplayer, make your way to the nearest town and look for the Transport post.  Whether with the Stagecoach Taxi or the Transport, select your destination and you’re on your way.  Both the Stagecoach Taxi and Transport are shown with a wagon wheel icon on your radar and map.

Newspapers – Want to find out more about the goings-on with characters and the world around you in Red Dead Redemption?  Buy a Blackwater Ledger newspaper.  They’re available at various places around the game world – for instance, from the gentleman on the steps right outside of the train depot at MacFarlane’s Ranch.  And be sure to keep reading newspapers even after you’ve completed the storyline.

Gesturing – Want to tip your hat or say hello to someone as they pass by John in single player?  Only when near another person, tap the circle button on PlayStation 3 or the B button on Xbox 360.

Running – Getting Marston into a sprint is a snap.  Hold A on Xbox 360 or X on PlayStation 3 to run.  Tapping the same button will gain you a bit more speed and have your character sprint.

Moneymaking and Ammunition – Loot bodies and find chests for free ammunition and money.  One example of where you can find chests is in Pike’s Basin.  Also check for ammunition in the chests and armoires in your Houses.  These properties are on your map in the shape of a green house.  You must complete a few missions before getting your first House in MacFarlane’s Ranch.

Capturing Bounties Alive – Once you get the lasso (unlocked by completing missions for Bonnie MacFarlane), you can capture bounties alive and earn more money.  Some people will put up a lot of resistance when you are trying to lasso them.  Just give them a single non-fatal shot in the arm or leg to immobilize them.

Rattlesnakes – While one of the smallest animals in the game, rattlesnakes aren’t too difficult to find as long as you listen closely when running around or riding on your horse.

Multiplayer Aiming – Not the type of person that favors aim-assistance?  Once you reach level 15 in multiplayer, you will have the option of playing in the Hardcore version of the various multiplayer game types, where aim-assistance is stripped away.  (Please note – for the extremely hardcore, we will have some particularly hard levels coming your way soon.  Details to follow in a few days or so.)

Health Regeneration – Your health regenerates if you get injured, both in single player and multiplayer.  If you find yourself in the heat of a battle and in danger of dying, use cover with R1 (PS3) or RB (Xbox 360).  You can also use medicine to replenish health if you’re in the midst of danger and can’t get away to hide.

Storyline Completion – Keep in mind that the storyline is not completely over with until you see the end credits.  Even after the credits, you can continue playing any challenges or stranger encounters you wish to finish.  (Note: Posting storyline spoilers in the comments will not be tolerated.  Please don’t ruin other people’s game experience.  We may well do an Asked & Answered purely on the storyline in a few weeks, but we will ask for the questions nearer that time.  Please don’t post them here now.)

If you’ve got a friendly tip or trick to share, feel free to share it with everyone.  What’s your most reliable weapon?  Favorite town?  Fave animal to hunt?  And let us know any other tips we should cover in the future…

Red Dead Redemption Hunting Tips

Per Rockstar: “The vast world of Red Dead Redemption is populated by a complex ecosystem of over thirty different species of animal, ranging from farm livestock to domestic pets to deadly predators. Each territory – from the frontier prairies of New Austin, down into the sun-scorched Mexican deserts of Nuevo Paraiso, and up into the greener, mountainous terrain of West Elizabeth – is home to its own distinct species and breeds of wildlife.

Each animal in Red Dead Redemption has its own unique behaviors: dogs will chase wagons, or bark at potential enemies. Barnyard animals will herd together, taking fright at loud noises. Large birds will scavenge from corpses, while predators like bears or wolves will put on aggressive threat displays and fearlessly attack humans.”

For me, hunting is certainly one of the funner aspects of Red Dead Redemption. It’s also a great way to earn extra coin since you can skin what you kill and then sell the animal parts in town. That being said, hunting can take skill and you will get ganged up on, ambushed, and most likely mauled more than a few times during your time spent in Red Dead Redemption. Here are a few tips to help keep hunting related death to a minimum:

Use Bait

There’s plenty of wildlife to shoot at, but we all experience cold streaks. If you use bait (can be purchased in most towns) you stand a much better chance of attracting the animals that you are looking for, assuming you are in the correct region.

Scan the Area

When you’re traveling off the beaten path, be aware of your surroundings and keep your Dead Eye meter full. I’ve also found it important to keep the volume up. Predators such as wolves and cougars often growl before they attack. If you fail to react, you may be dead within seconds.

Skin Everything

When you go on a hunt it can take some time – especially if you are searching for one particular animal. Because of this, be sure to take a step back and shoot other animals you know will wield extra cash. This way, if you don’t end up finding the animal you were searching for, you can still go home with something.

Double Tap

Taking a phrase from one of my favorite movies (Zombieland), be sure to “Double Tap” larger and more aggressive animals you are hunting. Often times, it will take more than one shot to put them down for good. Don’t let them get away and keep yourself alive. Double Tap everything larger than a raccoon.
