Be sure to stop by the Gunsmith on a regular basis in the 2nd half of single player Red Dead Redemption, because you’ll start to see rare weapons show up in the shopkeeper’s inventory. I was able to purchase my first rare weapon, the Semi-Automatic Shotgun, in Escalera.
Here’s a list of the current rare weapons in game:
Carcano Sniper Rifle
Location: Blackwater
Price: $1100
Evans Repeater
Location: Blackwater
Price: $1000
Mauser Pistol
Location: Blackwater
Price: $800
LeMat Revolver
Location: Escalara
Price: $1250
Semi-Auto Shotgun
Location: Escalara
Price: $1100
*When you purchase your first rare weapon, you’ll also unlock the achievement: EXQUISITE TASTE

i accidentaly came across the double action revolver, i don’t find it as good as the la mat or whatever it may be called because when i play awild western game i want a true revolver not some german nazy ugly pistol. unlike the schofield or the cattleman the double action just fires like a semi auto and that annoys me. like sometimes it will fire two shots instead of one. the le mat is my favioute it makes an amazing sounds and just looks cool whereas the mauser just look like two bits of metal pinned together lol, RDR rocks!!

I found that the higher your Honor and Fame are, the lower the prices for everything are. I bought the Kentucky Saddler for 750 rather that 1500. I also found that bears are easiest to take down with a sniper rifle shot to the head. In one mission, you take a Native American to a mine place, then he gets hurt and you go alone. During that mission, you come across a bear eating a Bighorn. You can knife the bear with about 10-12 slashes. Then you come across a dead bighorn and a cougar attacks you from nowhere.
