Red Dead Redemption Ships 5 Million Copies!
Q2 results are in and as reported by many gaming sites, Red Dead Redemption has already sold over 5 million copies worldwide.
Per Gamespy:
Red Dead Redemption has sold more than 5 million copies since it shipped on May 18 and Max Payne 3 has been delayed until 2011. So said Take-Two Interactive today in its second quarter report which highlighted a major financial turnaround for the Grand Theft Auto publisher.
Based on the strong sales of BioShock 2 and GTA: Episodes from Liberty City on the PlayStation 3 and PC, Take-Two reported better-than-expected net revenue of $268 million, a 54% leap compared to its $174 million fiscal 2009 second quarter.
“Our better than expected second quarter results reflect the solid performance of our triple-A titles and continued strength of our catalog business,” Strauss Zelnick, chairman of Take-Two, said in a statement.
And thanks to the critical and commercial success of Rockstar’s Western shooter and the lineup of big name titles still to come, Take-Two has raised its financial outlook for 2010.
“The successful worldwide launch of Red Dead Redemption reflects the unparalleled creative talent that is a distinguishing strength of Take-Two, and the title has set new benchmarks for quality and innovation,” Zelnick added. “We are incredibly proud of our creative teams and their success in delivering some of the best interactive entertainment experiences.”
Mafia II, L.A. Noire, and Sid Meier’s Civilization V are still set for launch this year, Take-Two stated. However, another of the company’s major franchises, May Payne, will not be a part of Take-Two’s 2010 take. The publisher announced that Max Payne 3 has been bumped out of fiscal 2010.
